01 Who we are

Wise Turtle Stories ("Wise Turtle", "we", "us", or "our") is operated by Anna Klimentova. This Privacy Policy applies to personal information collected through wiseturtle.ca and its related communications, including subscriptions, Journey requests, reviews, and enquiries. By providing personal information to us or using the website, you acknowledge the practices described in this Policy, subject to applicable law.

02 Information we collect

We collect personal information only where it is reasonably necessary for the purposes identified in this Policy. The categories of information may include:

  • Newsletter and Club sign-up: your email address.
  • Journey form: your name, email address, selected weather and service, the message you provide about your situation, contact preference, and phone number if you choose phone contact.
  • Book reviews: your name, email address, rating, review text, and your optional consent to be contacted. The name, rating, review text, date, format and any title you provide may be displayed publicly with the review; your email address is not displayed publicly.

We may also automatically receive limited technical information, including IP address, browser and device information, and request logs, where necessary to operate, secure, diagnose, and protect the website. We use browser storage to remember a visitor’s library view and review likes on that visitor’s device. You may clear that storage through your browser settings.

03 How we use your information

We collect, use, and disclose personal information with consent or as otherwise permitted or required by applicable law. We use personal information only for purposes reasonably connected to the relevant interaction, including:

  • to send the guide, newsletter, book news, and updates you requested;
  • to respond to Journey requests and provide the contact method you selected;
  • to receive, publish, manage, and respond to reviews, where applicable;
  • to run, maintain, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the website and its forms; and
  • to comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms or protect against fraud or abuse.

We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not use personal information for interest-based advertising, and we do not make decisions about individuals solely by automated means that produce legal or similarly significant effects.

04 Disclosure and third parties

We do not disclose personal information except as described in this Policy, with your consent, or where disclosure is permitted or required by law. We may disclose information to service providers that process it on our behalf and under contractual or other appropriate confidentiality and security obligations. The provider that receives subscription and Journey form information is:

  • MailerLite, which manages newsletter subscriptions and Journey email workflows.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers, insurers, competent authorities, or a successor organization where reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect our rights or safety, investigate misuse, or complete a corporate transaction. Service providers or other recipients may process personal information outside your province or outside Canada; in that case, the information may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is processed.

The website may link to third-party websites. Those websites are governed by their own privacy policies and terms. We are not responsible for their privacy practices, content, or security.

05 Retention and security

We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected, to manage the relevant relationship or record, and to meet legal, accounting, dispute-resolution, and operational requirements. Newsletter information is generally retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion. When information is no longer required, we will delete, anonymize, or securely destroy it, subject to any legal requirement to retain it.

We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, unauthorized access, use, disclosure, copying, modification, or disposal. The nature of those safeguards is proportionate to the sensitivity of the information. No method of electronic transmission or storage is completely secure; accordingly, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

06 Your choices and requests

Subject to applicable law and verification of identity, you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information in our custody or control. You may withdraw consent to marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe link in an email or by contacting us. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing that took place before withdrawal and may limit our ability to provide certain communications or services.

Commercial electronic messages are sent in accordance with applicable consent, identification, and unsubscribe requirements. Please contact us if you require assistance with an unsubscribe request or wish to request removal of a review.

07 Children’s privacy

Although our books are made for children, the website’s sign-up, Journey, and review forms are intended for parents, guardians, educators, and other adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through these forms. Do not provide a child’s personal information unless you are the child’s parent or guardian and disclosure is necessary for your request.

08 Contact us

For privacy questions, requests, complaints, or concerns, contact Anna Klimentova at anna@wiseturtle.ca or through The Story page. We may amend this Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, legal obligations, or services. The revised version will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.

This Policy does not limit any privacy rights available to you under applicable law. If there is a conflict between this Policy and a mandatory legal requirement, that legal requirement will prevail.
